WebDB'2000
Third International Workshop on the Web and Databases
Dallas, Texas - May 18-19, 2000

In conjunction with ACM SIGMOD'2000
Call for Papers

With the advent of the Web, data management has branched out from a traditional relational-server framework to deal with the variety of information available on the WWW. At the same time, database systems have come forward in a new role as the primary source for the information provided on the Web. Most today's Web accesses trigger some form of content generation from a database, while electronic commerce often trigger intensive DBMS-based applications. The research community has begun to revise data models, query languages, data integration, indexes, query processing, and transaction concepts in order to cope with the characteristics and scale of the data on the Web. New problems have been identified, like coping with limited source capabilities, information overlap, management of huge masses of data, and copy detection. This workshop is intended to bring together researchers interested in the interaction between databases and the Web.

TOPICS OF INTEREST include (but are not limited to)

  • data models for the Web;
  • query languages and systems for Web data;
  • query languages and systems for XML;
  • XML and semistructured data management;
  • management of Web documents;
  • finding structure in Web information;
  • data integration over the Web;
  • warehousing of Web data;
  • data-intensive applications on the Web;
  • methodologies and tools for Web data publishing;
  • mining, exploring, and visualizing the Web;
  • transactions on the Web;
  • security and integrity issues;
